A new trade association was launched over the weekend.
The International Blogging & New Media Association opened it's doors at BlogWorld Expo. Why? "Blogging, podcasting and other forms of new media have become tools of an emerging industry. The International Blogging and New Media Association (IBNMA) has been formed to serve as a single voice representing members of the industry and as an advocate to promote its growth. The Association's mission is four-fold: To provide Research, Information, Education and Advocacy to bloggers, podcasters, social media practitioners and others related to the industry in any way."
I had the pleasure of live streaming an interview with Paul Chaney, who is one of the leaders of this new association.
Jeff Turner aka respres

Sodahead is one I have not heard of, but sounds kinda interesting. What is your thoughts about them Jeff?
Jeremy... I pasted the wrong embed code in here at first. The video should have been about IBNMA. :) As for Sodahead, I've only begun to take a look. No opinion yet.
LOL I thought that may be the case...I will go watch the other video now!
Pretty soon we are going to be legit... I don't know if I can handle legit.
Paul's presentation on Sunday was filled with a lot of great info. His experience and enthusiasm for blogging is a good fit for the IBNMA.
I think I first time heard the word "blog" about 2 years ago, and look what is happening right now...
Jeff, i always tune into your blog when i want fresh inspiration on what is cutting edge? You rock.
Jeff, did you read the Technorati report yesterday on blogging? Sounds like this might be a good thing, I'll watch later, but if Paul is behind it I am sure it is a well thought out plan.
Jeff - blogging has come a long way to now have a trade association! Press credentials for all of us may be the next step.
Jeff this information is goning to be helpful to those of us that apply all this info.
Thanks for the post Jeff. Problem is the time to do all this stuff. I think I could blog 48 hours a day and still need more time.
Great news Jeff. Thanks for the heads up. Not familar with either one yet but that's why posts like these are so helpful.
Interesting validation of a growing trend. Thanks for the heads up.
I can honestly say that this was something I wasn't expecting to see. What a step!
This is fascinating. I have yet to attend any blogging conferences like Inman etc. but it sounds like this will become THE source for the future of blogging and social networking. I'm off to their website!
Well, if Jeff says so.....
............ thanks, Jeff
Kim... well, I have no idea where this will lead, but as Stefan said above, it is certainly an "interesting validation of a growing trend."
Thanks Jeff for the mention here. Yes, blogging/new media is becoming "legit," but that's a good thing imo. We're an industry...the discipline/technology/practice is becoming more and more mainstream and considered part of acceptable business practice.
If you look at other arms of the internet marketing world - SEO, web analytics, email marketing, etc - you find those groups being represented by trade and professional associations. Though ours is more broad-based in that we're attempting to cover the full gamet of social media under one umbrella, I believe there is a role for the IBNMA in shaping the industry and representing its members who are practitioners and participants in blogging, podcasting and social media.
REBW and Blog World were great this weekend! I'm really looking forward to where new and social media are going to be taking our industry.
Everything needs an associaiton. I can't wait to hear from the Real Estate Bloggers Association Micro Task Force Sub Committee. Perhaps soon there will be a new designation. Real Estate Certified Blog Writer ( RECBW ).
I just checked... I won't be legit. Not allowed.
Wow, exciting to think we are witnessing the birth of a whole new industry!
You always have the best info Jeff! Mahalo!
What a wonderful resource. I just subscribed. thank you!
Jeff,
Thanks for the post and sharing information about this group and its mission.
Moriah... I actually streamed this one live while I was at the show using Qik.com and my iPhone. But I could have done it using any digital camera with video capability, then uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo or any other video hosting source online.
Thanks for the insight. I checked the site and it sounds interesting. I will track it and may join in the future.
Aloha,
Keahi

I saw you doing this over the weekend and signed up. Just found out yesterday our office is closing so maybe this was fortuitous.
Jeff,
I saw this at the conference and was excited, I know it's been attempted before.. Did you attend the open meetingl? I did not, but still plan on joining.
I'm signed up! While oversight and controls seems to fly in the face of what is the true nature of blogging, I believe that this association can have some significant positive influence/impact, especially in the business sector. Best of luck to Paul and his group!
Thanks fro the post Jeff....as always your sharing great info........mississippi girl
