Several people (and one of my favorites) have questions about just HOW to add a YouTube video to their posts. Not everyone is familiar with HTML or embed code, so I thought the best way to help is to actually create and embed a video to demonstrate. I'm using Veoh.com for this, because their quality is better for viewing the text. [ the process for embedding from Veoh.com is exactly the same, by the way, but see my warning below ] Edit: If you can't see this top video, keep reading. It was uploaded at 9:05am PST.
For most uses, YouTube is fine (and certainly faster). Hopefully this will help.
Online Videos by Veoh.com
If you don't know how to copy and paste, we built a little tutorial to help. I know some of you reading this will be saying, "Seriously, someone doesn't know how to copy and paste?" Yesterday I was reminded not to assume anything. I was on the phone with a new client and said, "just" copy and paste. They then said, "I'm sad to say this, but I don't know how to copy and paste." So, if you don't, don't be ashamed. Just click on this link... How To Copy And Paste
Here is what the same video looks like on YouTube.
I want to give you one warning about Veoh.com. As I write this, the video you see above is not finished loading - after 2 hours. You can imagine how much fun I'm not having waiting to take this post live. The YouTube version was ready for viewing in 10 miinutes.
OK, another 30 minutes have gone by... so, I tried another service, vimeo.com, to see if the text was crisper. It was and here's another sample for you to view. Maybe Veoh will finish soon and I can post this thing. One of the things I liked about vimeo was how they updated me on the status of the video. Imagine why I'd be happy about that right now! Here is how they update you.
Video On How to Embed A YouTube Video on Vimeo
OK... well, as much as I hate to do this, I'm posting this as is. It is now 12:28pm PST. As of this second, almost 3 1/2 hours later, the Veoh.com video is not done uploading. The quality, when done, will be excellent. Perhaps when you get to this post it will be there and all of this rambling will seem humorous. Or not. :)
UPDATE: Some folks are having trouble on the PC, though I don't understand why. Nick has a work around posted here.

{SVW Hubba}...
Thank you so much my friend. Ahhh. I needed this. I would be lost without you right now.
I have been trying to figure this out but have not been able to wrap my brain around it.
I will now learn it and teach it to The Broker...Do I owe you money for this? SVVW...
Hey Jeff. this explanation rocks. :) what a helping hand you've given, u cool dude 8^)
Doh! I wanted to add a You Tube video clip to one of my posts and had not even NOTICED the HTML button. Do I feel silly now!! But I DID get the video (kind of) in my post. I inserted a picture, then added a link to the picture itself of the You Tube video I wanted to use. Glad to have someone point out that very obvious button right beside the one I used instead! And, nice to hear your voice, Jeff.
Oh, if you want to see how I tried to get around not knowing how to do this, it was in my post about Cass Scenic Railroad. Click the train picture at the top to go to the video. It worked, just not as well.
Well that didn't work. LOL....
Does it work in a comment? Duh. I think that defines my moment :)
TLW...ROAR!
TLW, go back into the HTML and try (copy and pasting) this..
<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aPDcMyPlFvw"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/s44TN8sDVww" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed>
sorry about all the email going out from editing. :)
Update: It is now 2pm PST and the video at Veoh.com is now "processing."
Got it Nick...I am going to try mine again.
Hubba...Sorry I need to stay right here and practice I need you and Nick's help so that I can teach this to my Bubba...ROAR!
This is a Hijack...Stick 'em up...LOL...
TLW...ROAR!
This is the code:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZSmegm4Gn4s"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZSmegm4Gn4s" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
What am I doing wrong?
ooppss TLW, i forgot to mention.. i did use your, but forgot to change it in the second spot.. you need to use the code below. IT IS YOUR VID.. :) here is your code. i stole it!! :)
<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aPDcMyPlFvw"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aPDcMyPlFvw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed>
Ines.. just change the letters is these two (bolded) spots and you'll have it. it took me a minute to figure it out. you'll get them from the embed link in you tube.
for some reason on PC, it doesn't work straight from the code in you tube.. at least not for TLW and myself.
Jeff, so you jsut copy and paste staright from you tube? is this were you tell me that PC's suck? hahaha
I DID IT...
Ahhh. That's a good thing. I love it when I can drop my DUH :)
Thanks so much guys. I'm going to do a few more. Might as well make this an interesting tutorial hijack :)
TLW...ROAR!
Hey Jeff looks like TLW does pay attention even after all these yrs. with the Oh So Good Looking Broker Bryant. LOL
Ok Jeff.. you get the most credit for this .. but I'm gonna put up a post for PC users..
everyone is having the same trouble i had.. you're stil #1 though!! :)
Nick M. was that you surfing?
Nice job Jeff. Thanks Jay
must be Internet Explorer - I just changed to Firefox and could see it just fine - go figure!
The Veoh video IS much more clear Jeff.
Ines...
I.E. crashed while I was embedding a few minutes ago. Just got it back up and find that I can't do this again?
Should I switch over to Firefox?
TLW...ROAR!
Okay...
It looks like part of the code is being lost when I edit. I have gone back several times to embed the same video and noticed part of the code is gone.
I think this is an AR bug? Knowing the guys as I do they probably already know. Ben consistently catches the bugs.
I'll come back to this later.
Ahhh. I'm checking out (good way of putting that) with the Turner Tomato :)

One more try. I'm a Leo. That means I'm stubborn :)
I'm gonna try copying and pasting the code from here.
Jay, i wish i could surf stuff like. i only weigh 165 duuuude!!!
TLW, it may have locked up becuase we have a lot of vids on here. so the poor little PC went AARGGHH!
and that code you just posted has extra junk in the truck that is making it not work. Ines is having the same issue.
Jeff, there is clearly a difference of how this codes act in MAC and PC -or- its an Internet Explorer thing.
but this is almost 'fun' in a terrible and mean in a Dr. Evil and mini-me kinda way.. kinda like watching fish flounder after you pull them out of the ocean!! hee heee...
God, forgive me, I'm a sinner.
You think this won't cause a little trouble?LOL...That was hilarious :)
Thank you so much for the fun that I'm having tonight. SVVVVVVVW....
Do you want me to remove some of my homework so your post will load correctly?
TLW...ROAR!
Pandora's Box?
Oh! Yes. LOL...
TLW...ROAR!
great one Jeff.. TLW is gonna have a blast with that link..
MAC does have some killer graphic and video editing tools.. :)
i guess the 2 vids per post theory is out the door!! or is it because you have a MAC!! :)
It's taking quite awhile for your post to load on my laptop.
I want to make sure my homework wasn't messing up your post :)
I mean please it's bad enough I turned it into a hijacked tutorial :)
Helen. Ahhh. Hear Me ROAR!
TLW...ROAR!
I am laughing so hard right now I'm gonna bust a rib. I have watched that 3 three times and each time is funnier than the last.
You guys are killing me tonight. LOL...
TLW...ROAR!
Hey Jeff,. i did a draft post to test the vid.. and then added another vid.. no problem. then when i tried to add the exact same code again (#3), it failed.. but the 1st two showed. so i thought there may be a limit. but i guess not, as there are several here. :)
now my post is not showing the vids. and i didn't edit the post or TLW's comment. not sure what is going on. may the AR dude are working? did TLW edit her 1st comment vid on my post?? there are too many factors, I'm gonna let it ride til tomorrow, incase its the AR dudes. What a post,.. embed vids like this and the vid doesn't show!! haha!
I think TLW changed hers from the surfing vid to another (in this thread).. She's getting good at this. that is borderline dangerous!! :)
Jeff
Can you please make a tutorial on how to reset the clock on my DVD.. It keeps flashing 12:00...
:)
As always, thank you... You Jedi Master of computers.
MR
hey Jeff. i'm going to go out on a limb here.. but since your MAC is able to copy and paste the entire code without issues, then the page loads fast. for the PC >cough, cough< users, there are some vids on this page that are not showing... (5 of them to be exact). and that may be slowing down the load time for us. its working to load it, once it hits all the errors and can't do it, then it loads.
i dunno anymore.. just a thought, er uh,.. something i heard. a little birdie told me. it wasn't me. i'm not a computer geek! :)
Hi Jeff I just want to say thanks for the tips. I just posted a stupid little you tube demontration on my blog and I couldn't believe how easy it was. Thanks to you and Nick M. keep up the good work guys much appreciated.
Thanks Jay
Ines, for editing video, working from the desktop is always best. I'm a MAC guy, so my life is made easier by the iLife suite that comes standard on every MAC. Nothing, and I repeat, nothing on the PC comes close to matching the quality and ease of use. Unfortunately, I have no recommendations on the PC side. If someone out there does, please help!
As for RealEstateShows.com and video. Yes, our Shows are created from still photos. But we have a little surprise up our sleeves that will be ready for announcement in a week or two. :)
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/M3geoXOdnJQ"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/M3geoXOdnJQ" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Ines, we can talk later. i can suggest some stuff, depending on what you need to do.
Jeff T is right.. MAC has great video & graphic design + awesome CAD (from what I hear).
Jeff L, cool to note.. now that is going to open some possibilities.. i think. if so, you'll soon see :) update: ah yes, a better toy.! time to take it up another notch. hee heeee it works!
Thanks for pointing that out Jeff. i'm glad i juiced it while i could with that post :)
now, maybe i should get off this guy's internet connection ;)
Thank you "My" Jeff Link...
I have been trying to embed for two days. Now I know why I couldn't. I was going to ask Hubba aka Jeff Turner, but as you know he's been understandably preoccupied :-)
Game of flag anyone? :-)
TLW...ROAR!
Great explanation and demos. I'm a little late to the party but appreciate your efforts just the same.
Rob
Andrew... most of this stuff is very easy once you've done it once.
Maria... you can!
Jeff, this is a million dollar blog post. Thank you SOO much!!!

Testing to see if I can do this! I appreciate this blog!
Hi Jeff,
I am off to try your methodology! I am looking forward to mastering the skill you taught. Thank you for your time and help in this! :)
YouTubeRobot.com today announces YouTube Robot 2.0, a tool that enables you to download video from YouTube.com onto your PC, convert it to various formats to watch it when you are on the road on mobile devices like mobile phone, iPod, iPhone, Pocket PC, PSP, or Zune.
YouTube Robot allows you to search for videos using keywords or browse video by category, author, channel, language, tags, etc. When you find something noteworthy, you can preview the video right in YouTube Robot and then download it onto the hard disk drive. The speed, at which you will be downloading, is very high: up to 5 times faster than other software when you download a single file and up to 4 times faster when you download multiple files at a time.
Manual download is not the only option with YouTube Robot. You may as well schedule the download and conversion tasks to be executed automatically, even when you are not around. Downloading is followed by conversion to the format of your choice and uploading videos to a mobile device (if needed). For example, you can plug in iPod, select the video, go to bed, and when you wake up next morning, your iPod will be ready to play new YouTube videos.

OK, now I am really suffering from posting envy. I watched the instruction video twice, (well done by the way) did everything step by step, even wrote down the steps to avoid short term memory loss...and yet, it isn't working for me. We turned off the "embed" option when we posted these videos on You Tube because we didn't want anyone to pick them up and use them without our knowledge, so I went into the "owner" options, copied and pasted the code, saved the post as a draft. The You Tub screen shows up but when I click on it to play, it says the video is no longer available. HUH? Did I miss something along the way?
Mr. Turner , I have watched your video 100 times and I still don't get it. Here is my post where I tried to embed a utube!

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what file format does it have to be in?
Thank you again for this great tutorial. HTML is like chinese to me so this was a great help!
I think youtube is unprofessional and should not be used for real estate. Even
the others that contain mature stuff and accidents sends the wrong message.
I prefer housereel.com and several others that are RE only.
:-)
Jeff, Thanks so much. I love the videos the others just posted too! (Lightens the heart! ) ~JC
Great tutorial Jeff and much needed. Thanks.
Hopefully I will muster the courage to give this a try= just got a new camera for my birthday!
Your advice is of super value. Thanks bro
So many must appreciate your technological advive. Kepp up the good work.
Sidney
Thank you, I really need to add videos to my posts but had no idea how to do it. Thank you for the information.

Thanks for all the info - more than I can process right now. I will bookmark for later. What an awesome surfing video!
Definitely bookmarked, thanks!!!
Great Tip. Thanks
Hi Jeff, How do post a You Tube video in the comment section since there is no HTML tab?
I've seen it done and I've been searching but can't seem to find my answer. Can you help? I even wrote a blog asking for help here.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks! That was just what we needed!
Jeff: I was going to upload video, and as now I know that there are instructions to everything in AR, I searched and found this. Great help. Not wasting 2 hours to figure this out is great. Thanks, Tere
Thanks for the help Jeff...I have been trying to do this for about an hour...then I figured there must be some video on how to do this!!
Jeff - I have followed the instructions and only see the square with the red x. None of the videos in your post or the comments have loaded for me as well. Just a lot of squares with an icon in the upper corner. Help!
Thanks for the tutorial! I didn't realize it was so easy!
I have a new video blog site called: http://www.RealEstateTipsandAdvice.com
ActiveRain members may post their videos on this site for free. Just shoot a real estate video tip, host it on youtube and send it to us. We'll even put a link to your website.
Any questions, catch me on my google voice 814 634 4848.
Thanks Jeff, I am off to the races now to post my first video to AR.
Great work Jeff, I tried it and it works great! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for this post. I am looking to do this and found this post on the search!
This is one of the few things I actually know how to do with video.
Jeff, Your tutorial is fantastic...but AR post site has changed since you made it. There is no update or save button in the HTML window. It says it auto saves, but I lose everything when I go back to the post. Any suggestions?
Hey Deb...
You have to manually save on WYSIWYG before switching over to HTML. Relying on auto save is risky business. Hope that helps :)

Wow, just noticed the original blog posting date, truly "An Oldie, but Goodie".
Thanks for the info.
