Communicate The Way Your Clients Want You To

I Happened On An Interesting Comment A Few Moments Ago

I was searching for the term "real estate" in Terraminds, which is a Twitter search tool, and found the following "tweet."

"YEAH, my real estate agent Angie joined twitter! We love our house btw Angie!"

Terraminds Twitter SearchThe statement was made by discorax, whose bio says he is in WebDev Design. Here's a consumer who is obviously tech savvy and as you can see by his expression on Twitter above, he likes the fact that his real estate agent is connected to him in the way he wants to be connected with.

The real estate agent, Angie Bondurant, signed up for her Twitter account less than one day ago and is only following discorax. That's not the point. I don't know if she'll ever follow anyone else. I also have no idea if she understood what she was signing up for, but it appears she certainly understood one thing... how to communicate with her client in the way he wanted to be communicated with.

If Angie is smart, she'll continue communicating with him that way.

I thought a loan officer I have worked with joined facebook...turns out another guy with the same name in the LA area lol! In any case, I found my cousins kid on Linked IN :)

Jeff - I agree if you are tech savvy you would almost certainly look for that in a Real Estate agent. I was looking around the twitter site the other day and signed up but I am embarressed to say I don't really understand what the site is for? I know you wrote a post a while back on the site. I know I need to go back and read it.

The more the merry-er. Is that how you would write that. Not sure, one thing that I certainly am sure of is. I will be checking out this Twitter tweet thing. 8)

Yes we all learn to do what our clients want or we don't have the client anymore. Thanks for the comments. I'm all "a Twitter" with excitement.

Celeste... :)

Bill... I think Twitter is a B2B tool at this point, at least for me. I stopped using it for a bit, because I couldn't see the B2C connection for the real estate agent. But Teri Lussier has already has some success hooking up with live human beings... and in this case, the consumer influenced the real estate agent to join. Very interesting to me.

Rob... lots to learn, lots of changes to come.

Jeff, it's great to be able to communicate with our clients successfully whether it's by Twitter, email, Google Docs or phone.  The point is to keep the communication something easy for them!

I've read before that Gen X and Y prefer texting to email. Terramind presents some interesting possibilities for the tech-savvy agent, as well as privacy/security issues for all Tweeters. Need to think about this one for awhile...

Chris... it's no different than calling a client who doesn't have email.

John... you should assume everyone can see your twitters.

Jay and Ana... approach Twitter as a way to share ideas. Follow a few people, watch, then comment or share as you see fit. Thee are no rules.

Brian... If you want to start a dialogue with local, neighborhood "twitterheads" you can use terraminds search to search profiles for cities in your area and begin following some of the locals.

I like Twitter because Jeff Turner just told me he's looking at my email suggestions, and I told him YAY I'm working on a comment to him.  As if we needed to know what we were doing RIGHT NOW, but we do.  :o)

I also like that some of my favorite AR people Twit and so far no one has thrown a sheep at me.

But now that I've said that I will be looking out for them.

you hit the nail on the head. try yelp.com  it is a review site and people of any job can post reviews of local places but you make a profile for you. locals look at the reviews of the local things and link back to you for posting.

I'm just getting to understand twitter better - I'm still a little confused

BUT if buyers and sellers can find me there than it's a good thing -

TWEET!  I signed up awhile back and didn't update often, now that I've added it to my Facebook apps, it's become easier to remember to check and update and I'm hooked.  I saw Teri's post on her success...so here's hoping that it brings me some cool contacts.

Jeff,

I started reading this post early this afternoon.  It has taken 7 hours to comment.  I got sidetracked with the Twitter and Naymz stuff - and it's all your fault!  LOL

Why can't I resist this stuff?  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Posted by Carol Smith (Casmi Photography) over 2 years ago
The point to me is - when a client suggests a tool or site or membership - at least be considerate and caring enough to check it out.

The number of clients who are communicating to me through Active Rain contacts should be an alert that our way of communicating is changing and we need to embrace that change.
Posted by Randy L. Prothero - Hawaii REALTOR® (Century 21 Liberty Homes) over 2 years ago
Good point. One of the first questions I ask my clients is what their perfered method of communication is.  So far none have said it is twitter, or facebook.  Sometimes I think they want me to help them buy a house and it really hurts my feelings but I am not all that sure they want me for a friend.  Some do, but others don't.

Although it is a headache, it is important to keep up with new technologies. A lot of buyers and sellers are in their 20s and 30s and love their technology. My 2cents....
Posted by Public Realty (PublicRealty.org) over 2 years ago
I am with you on this one.  One of my first questions to all of my clients is "What is your preferred method of communication?"   I even once took a loan application via text message.
Posted by R O over 2 years ago
So here is my question...  If I get involved in all of the technologies and social media, will I have any time left to actually work?  I wonder what the ROI is for many of these media... based on the time invested.

Jeff, thanks for the reminder. I read something a month or so ago along the same lines: if your clients prefer texting, then text them; if they prefer e-mail, then e-mail them; if they prefer old-fashioned phone calls, call away!

I like the idea.  I'm a little concerned of how many different ways some people are choosing to communicate.  For myself, I think I just need to find one or two that work for my clients and run with them.

This is an interesting option though!
