Linda Slocum: Advice For New Realtors®

After staring at Linda Slocum's face for a year on the Santa Clarita profiles page, I decided it was time we met.

Of course, I didn't decide this until after I saw her again over at Naymz. How wrong is that? Luckily Linda agreed and we decided to have lunch together today.

As has been the case with every person I've ever met through ActiveRain, I really enjoyed our time together. Linda shared some great insights into her blogging strategies and talked about how her internet presence has reshaped her Santa Clarita real estate career. Near the end of our conversation, I asked her, "If I were a brand new real estate agent, what would you tell me to do first." This was her answer.

Hi Jeff, I'm not "new" but even I learned something from Linda today. :)  I appreciated Linda's rich insights about getting an understanding of what is important and what one truly wants to pursue in a real estate career. What I found most interesting was her comments about how blogging reveals who a person is over time.  Very true!

Hmmm, what kind of person am I?  Based on my blogging, I would guess either moody or perhaps a split personality.  Great advice Linda, and thanks to Jeff for sharing.  Off to visit Linda's blog....

Jeff,

Your use of technology is way cool.

She's got a great point.  Too many of us out there and unless you can set yourself apart, you get mixed in with the rest.  Who are you? That's a question the public asks themselves when they first come across your stuff.

Yes, I have been looking at Utterz and this came in very handy for you at your lunchen. I agree that you must decided who you are and it is hard just coming into the business. I find myself looking at different aspects of the business, but I have decided to stay Residential.

Jeff...Thank you for

  1. The interview...very important question and Linda's answer did it justice.
  2. The demonstration of how helpful Utterz.com can be.
  3. The mention of NAYMZ....................ACTUALLY, NO THANKS!  If there is one more thing I don't need it is another place to go, another place to find helpful information, another place that is entertaining, another place that will keep me up until the wee hours of the morning...I will not go there.

Cheers, Kathleen

Your use of technology just keeps me on my toes.  I'll just be 10 steps behind you- that's good enough for me.

Wow, I just saw Linda a couple of minutes ago over on Posh'd and now found this post. Amazing how this web thing really connects us together. Nice use of an embedded Utterz and great answer from Linda about 'the true you.'

Jeff - great use of technology!  You are definitely the Guru of Gadgets!

Linda's advice is totally on target.  And I totally agree with her statement that your blog will show who you really are.  There is something about what people write that reveals a deeper look at their true self.

Thanks again!  And thanks to Linda!

Jeff, that was great. Linda and yourself have been across from each other for so long. It is good to see the real you's finally got to meet. Looking forward to using Utterz. Thanks for that one.

Jeff & Linda - I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation.  You two are pros!  Love the advice, and would love it if we had a Palm Blog Reader here to tell me a little more about myself!  Personally, I think I'm all over the place...

I really enjoyed the advice about "The True You". It is a discovery of epic proportion and requires one to press the "pause" button on ones ego in my opinion. Slowing down and seeing yourself through the spoken and written word that emerges from be honest. You're right Jeff, it should reflect our values. Have we put "what we believe" into our processors because "our parents did , i.e. I'm OK, Your're OK studies), or have we tested the waters of reality and seen a unique reflection that we can truly call ourselves. Then marketing tools can be built to connect with people who value aspects of of products because in essence, they may value us as real people. In Australia, the word "Aborigine" means The Real People
