AR Tutorials: Embedding Anything In Your ActiveRain Blog Posts

Several clients have emailed me in the past two weeks asking how to embed Real Estate Shows into their ActiveRain blog posts.

It works just like any other embed code, so I thought it was time to do a how to video on this subject. I'm going to use RealEstateShows.com embed code for this example, but, again, it works the same way for any HTML code.

I'm going to insert the embedded Show here:

And I'm going to insert the embedded video that illustrates how I did it here:

IT'S IMPORTANT TO SAVE TO DRAFT BEFORE SWITCHING BETWEEN WYSIWYG AND HTML!

As you can see from the video, you can't see either the video or the Show when you are editing your post. This is the most confusing part of how ActiveRain has implemented this. And, if you move from HTML to WYSIWYG or from WYSIWYG to HTML without first saving to draft, you'll lose your changes.

Note: Show was created on our trip to West Virginia. That's our creek... my favorite place in the world.

Hi Jeff - many thanks for posting this! I had tried to do this before, and messed it up, so will CLOSELY follow your steps above and see if I can get it to work the next time around. I try to stick to the WYSI.... stuff and stay away from HTML because I just don't understand that yet. YET....... Thanks again! Ann

Randy... we'll have a plugin for Wordpress shortly, along with a whole bunch of other widgety goodies. This is a bit confusing.

Bob... yep. Switching from HTML to WYSIWYG and saving from the switch is the reason.

Ann... do it withe some dummy text you don't care about and just keep posting to draft. Then you won't be frustrated if you mess up. :)

Thanks much for a clear, easy to understand lesson in embedding videos.  I can't  wait to try it out!  There is so much to learn it's almost like starting over in real estate but in a new world with a new language and rules to go with it.  I'm glad I found ActiveRain and so many experts that a generous enough to help others.  I'm going to go back and read all of your blogs.

Don... it'a a bit tricky, but it will work.

Celeste... good job! And a nice post.

Melisa... thank you.

David... I try to do all my videos in one take, they are more natural that way. So it only took me a bit longer than the actual video length. But thank you.

Mike Foiou... good luck.

Mike Jaquish... I'm surprised at the number of RES users who only do listing Shows. You can do so much more!

Posted by Sheron Cardin - how2homestage.com (California Moods Inc) over 4 years ago

Jeff - thanks for the tip but can you suggest how to change the size of the show to fit the sidebar?  I've seen one other ActiveRainer do it and have gotten a suggestion to do this (I know it's too large but don't know how to change it).

When I tried to manipulate the height and width size in the code (as illustrating in another blog) I ended up just cropping the picture and while it fit in the sidebar at half the dimensions, it didn't alter the show in its entirety - just half the photos.  I'm sure it's a simple fix....but I am NOT Jeff Turner...:-)

Many thanks!

I was trying to embed a PDF and couldn't figure it out.  Didn't spend a lot of time trying however.  I just had a friend convert it to a pic and posted it that way.

I probably just didn't spend the time necessary in figuring it out, but if you have a quick answer (or link to answer) that would be great.

Didn't watch the video above because it seems it just pertains to video...

Brandon... my pleasure.

Duane... good luck!

Steve... Glad it helped!

Matt... you're welcome.

Posted by Jeff Turner (Real Estate Shows) over 4 years ago

Troy... Nick M. reminded me that you can embed a pdf, just not directly. That involves using iframes. Here is an example: http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/html/iframe-pdf.html

You will still need to have the pdf hosted somewhere with a URL. And, be warned, people, like me, may have their browsers configured to open PDF files offline anyway.

Cheryl Johnson wrote a great little tutorial on iframe use:
